ARTIST: Jennifer Justad
From: Minneapolis, Mn
Medium: Blown Glass
Jennifer Justad was first introduced to the art of glass blowing at the Minnesota Renaissance festival as a wide eyed child and then later got a closer look in high school on an art history trip to Venice, Italy. During her college career in Wisconsin she had the opportunity to work with the fascinating material. After being thrown into the medium at an art intensive camp, she continued her education in Chicago with glass artist Pearl Dick.
It wasn't until she moved back to Minnesota, and took up mentorships with a few Minneapolis glass artists that her love for the medium started to grow. Since her start at Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts in 2009, she has expanded her knowledge of glass and sculpture while attending workshops held by Michael Boyd, Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen and Jasen Johnsen, Bennett Jordan, among others. She has also attended a Corning Museum of Glass Studio class with Boyd Sugiki and Lisa Zerkowitz. While working and teaching at the non-profit in Northeast Minneapolis she has created a wide ranging portfolio of work focusing on objects such as brightly colored cupcakes and ice cream cones to the intricate details of the human heart. Through her work she explores the infinite possibilities and endless obstacles of this intricate medium.
